Celestion’s production of the G12M Greenback 25W has moved back to Ipswich, England.  These are not the G12M Greenback 25W that were, as in previous years, made in China. However, if you are looking for brand new G12M Greenback 25W made in China, then you can see our listing for those.  
Adhering precisely to the design notes and specifications for the original speaker, re-discovered during our recent factory move, and using exactly the same materials and construction techniques, Celestion has recreated the classic 1960s G12M for a new generation of rock and blues guitarists.

Description

LN Discount

This is listed as “open box” not because the box has been opened, but because it is LN: not “New in Box” or NIB.  By LN, we mean the following:

  1. The manufacturer seal has not been broken.
  2. They have not been sold (new).
  3. Their unopened OEM boxes may have the following issues that that should not impact the function of the speaker:  (a) some small dents that would not have made contact with the speaker.  (b) other cosmetic blemishes that will not impede identifying what is contained in the unopened OEM box.
  4. You may hear and feel the speaker traveling inside the new opened OEM box more than you usually would.  Upon request, we can open and reinforced/repair the OEM box internally to secure the speaker for transport after inspecting the speaker per below.

Open Box Option

Our opened boxes have passed our 11-point inspection which means they do NOT have the following when we ship them out:

  • bent/warped rim or basket
  • wrinkled/warped/creased cone
  • coil-rub
  • non-standard incursion and excursion under electrical load

This Item

The OEM box has a dent that is almost a puncture in the top center, where it would not have touched the speaker itself.  The OEM box and speaker may have cosmetic, and/or other minor issues (that should not impede it’s function) that may deviate from the stock photo.

The stock photo in this listing is used in place of the actual item because these boxes are unopened.

Made in England

Celestion’s production of the G12M Greenback 25W moved back to Ipswich, England.  The first of the new English-made arrived in April of 2018.  The G12M Greenback 25W were, in previous years, made/assembled in China. If you are looking for English craftsmanship in assembling the same speaker, this is for you. 

Really made in UK?

This history, and the fact that the speaker magnet cover reads “Celestion International” leads some buyers to suspect that these were also made in China.  However, the product photo (is not exact unit sent, but all our stock is like this) shows:
  1. It says “Made in UK” on the UPC sticker of the unopened manufacturer box. 
  2. There is a thick manufacturer’s sticker on the side of the speaker’s back cover that says “MADE IN UK”.  
  3. The speaker magnet cover reads, “This loudspeaker is the original Greenback specification”.

The following is the story behind this speaker, which is among the most classic of the classic rock guitar speakers.  I do not sell in Germany, and I cannot link to any site that does, so this author will remain anonymous – but he is not my competitor, so here is the info:
The legendary british Blues & Rock sound of the 60s & 70s.
Way back in the 1960s, Celestion released a version of the popular G12 guitar loudspeaker called the G12M. These days nicknamed the Greenback, with its medium weight magnet this speaker had a tone that was silky smooth and warm, while still retaining the brightness and punch necessary to cut through the rest of the band. The Greenback was also a highly articulate speaker, perfect for the pioneering lead guitarists of the time. A classic had been born.
Over subsequent years, the Greenback has evolved and remains popular with guitarists and amp manufacturers to this day. As the speaker developed, though, its tonal characteristics moved away from those of the original 60s model.
Adhering precisely to the design notes and specifications for the original speaker, re-discovered during our recent factory move, and using exactly the same materials and construction techniques, Celestion has recreated the classic 1960s G12M for a new generation of rock and blues guitarists.
