Description

Made in UK

Celestion’s production of the G12M Greenback 25W moved back to the United Kingdom.  The G12M Greenback 25W were, for some previous years, made/assembled in China. If you are looking for English craftsmanship in assembling the same speaker with the same famous tone that we have come to expect, this is for you.

Really made in UK?

The following should address such questions/concerns:

  • There is a thick manufacturer’s sticker that says “Made in UK” on the side of the speaker’s back cover (see product photo).  That photo’d speaker is an opened box but you will be shipped a NIB, unopened box.
  • It says “Made in UK” on the sticker on the unopened manufacturer box that it ships in (see photo).
  • In the photo you can zoom in and see that the large circular sticker on the back of the magnet cover reads “Celestion International”.  This does not indicate that it is not made in UK, even if it once did.

We also have a separate listing for a few remaining G12M Greenback 25W that were made in China. Contact us to purchse these at a discount if that listing is no longer visible
Famously played by Angus Young of AC/DC, Celestion’s specs for the Celestion G12M 25W Greenback 12 inch Guitar speaker boast:

The G12M Greenback has evolved over the decades but still retains its essential, sought- after tone.Angus Young has been a Greenback devotee since the early days of AC/DC. This model is voiced with additional broad mid-range attack and restrained top-end to give a forward, punchy attitude to chords and a searing lead tone without fizz. With its well-controlled low end it can be used singly in low-powered amps, or in multiples for high-power rock heads. It’s an ideal guitar speaker to bring drive and definition to modern high gain amps.

Celestion G12M GREENBACK 25W 75hz 16 Ohm

The following is the story behind this speaker, which is among the most classic of the classic rock guitar speakers.  I do not sell in Germany, and I cannot link to any site that does, so this author will remain anonymous – but he is not my competitor, so here is the info:
The legendary british Blues & Rock sound of the 60s & 70s.
Way back in the 1960s, Celestion released a version of the popular G12 guitar loudspeaker called the G12M. These days nicknamed the Greenback, with its medium weight magnet this speaker had a tone that was silky smooth and warm, while still retaining the brightness and punch necessary to cut through the rest of the band. The Greenback was also a highly articulate speaker, perfect for the pioneering lead guitarists of the time. A classic had been born.
Over subsequent years, the Greenback has evolved and remains popular with guitarists and amp manufacturers to this day. As the speaker developed, though, its tonal characteristics moved away from those of the original 60s model.
Adhering precisely to the design notes and specifications for the original speaker, re-discovered during our recent factory move, and using exactly the same materials and construction techniques, Celestion has recreated the classic 1960s G12M for a new generation of rock and blues guitarists.
